Story Behind :
Every font has a story, and Hollywoody’s began in the golden age of cinema. Growing up, We were captivated by the glamour of old Hollywood — not just the stars, but the way every detail, from the lights to the signage, seemed to shimmer with grandeur. It wasn’t just about movies; it was about the experience, the entire spectacle.
Designing Hollywoody felt like crafting a love letter to that era — but in a way that feels relevant and accessible for today’s creative needs. Every curve, every alternate, every stylistic set was a tribute to the beauty and drama of retro Hollywood, designed for modern applications. We wanted this font to be a tool for designers to create moments of awe, just as those vintage signs did for us.
What inspired us the most is a movie called Sunset Boulevard (1950). The film is a perfect reflection of the golden age of Hollywood, with its bold, dramatic storytelling and striking visual elements that echo the grandeur of classic cinema.
The movie’s iconic promotional materials, particularly its bold, high-contrast typography, often featured tall, dramatic letters reminiscent of studio signage from that era. The sense of elegance, yet underlying tension, that Sunset Boulevard captures is mirrored in the Hollywoody design — a font that combines boldness with the sweeping glamour of mid-century aesthetics.
Inspired by the grandeur of the film’s title sequences, set design, and larger-than-life characters, Hollywoody evokes the same retro charm, with tall caps and strong, sweeping strokes that feel both glamorous and imposing. Just like Sunset Boulevard encapsulated the fading allure of old Hollywood, this font aims to bring that same dramatic impact into the modern design world.
