Pantone Chose Two Colors Of The Year 2021: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating
Finally, this universally recognized terrible year is about to be over, it’s high time to look ahead to the future and hope it brings something good. It’s also highly important to never forget the events of 2020, which despite their awfulness have taught us to be more flexible, socially responsible and to stay positive no matter what. Pantone colors of the year, ultimate gray and illuminating yellow, are a pure incarnation of these ideas.
The first-ever achromatic color chosen by Pantone, ultimate gray, transfers the feelings of composure, steadiness and resilience. You should picture a big mighty boulder, able to withstand any cataclysm, being firm and sustainable. Hard as nails, bold, and reliable gray is a terse opposite of a cheerful and lively yellow, called “illuminating”. This color of the year compensates for everything gray hue can’t offer: vigor, energy, positive vibes.
Gray color is the complete opposite of illuminating yellow at this point, transferring the emotions of sadness, fear and disappointment. Taking into account a pressing topic about the pandemic and it affecting various economic sectors and social institutions, questions like “why gloomy gray?” fade away instantly. However, the Pantone specialists emphasize that they’ve picked the mid-gray color, opting for something less harsh, being the message of strength.
Just like that two contrasting colors come together to express the ups and downs of this year, standing for how people have coped with so many obstacles and still find the stamina to move forward and hope for a bright future. We’ll be seeing lots of this color solution in clothing, web and product design!
